MUA speaks: Fena Nwosu

ABOUT YOU
My name is FenaNwosu, a graduate of Law, NnamdiAzikiwe University Awka, Anambra State. I am the head makeup artist at Sleek Beauty shop, Awka, Anambra state.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO MAKEUP BUSINESS?
I always knew i wanted to be in the beauty industry, but never knew the particular aspect I will be specializing on. In my final year in school (2009), I went for a friend’s make up studio opening, I saw some ladies including myself being turned from ‘’Plain Janes to Glam Divas’’. We were all gasping in awe. There and then I decided to train and since then there has been no turning back.

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO SET UP A MAKE UP STUDIO?
It takes a lot of factors; first and most importantly, get a makeup training and I guess with determination, hard work, consistency and patience ‘’everything will fall in place”

WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES?
The greatest problem I still find difficult to handle is the perception of people towards makeup, a lot of people believe makeup is for the ugly ones or that make up is ‘’too artificial’’. These are so untrue, make up helps to enhance one’s features, make up is beauty. If we are so interested in being natural, why not go around in our birthday suits or without removing body hairs in unwanted areas.. *Laughs*. Other challenges are capital as usual, availability and cost of makeup and beauty products, etc.
WHAT MAKES YOU DIFFERENT FROM OTHER MUA’s?
Professionalism, drive and passion, clientele management and makeup techniques

FUTURE PLANS?
Yeah, by God’s grace I hope to one day have my own makeup brand and to also to have studios in almost all parts of the country.
